Why Isn’t Everyone Using Same-Day ACH Returns?
Same-Day returns offer significant benefits—so why aren't more financial institutions taking advantage of them?
Every FI seems to have its own reasons, but the most common issue is a lack of clarity around internal timelines versus Nacha's 2 Banking Day timeline.
By rule, standard exception item returns must be made available to the ODFI no later than opening of business on the second Banking Day following the Settlement Date of the original Entry.
This “2 Banking Day” window often causes confusion. Let’s break it down visually.
Note: The following visualizations do not include examples of extended return timeframes.
